American Legion Civil War Encampment
On Sept. 12, 2009 at the Woodland Stroll Through History, American Legion, Yolo Post 77 will be celebrating the 90th anniversary of its Sept. 1919 founding.
Inside the Post 77 hall, 523 Bush St . , Woodland , will be displays of military rifles and pistols from the Civil War through the war in Vietnam , along with photographs of Yolo County from the late 1800s through World War II. These photos will include those of the pre-World One F Troop Yolo County National Guard unit through its deployment to fight in World War II, and also photographs of local scenes and residents taken during the 1930s through the 1950s by Woodland photographer Paul Hollingshead. Military uniforms and memorabilia from the late 1800s through the 1950s will also be displayed. A Post 77 exhibit will present photos and documents of the Woodland Sea Scouts, the old Legion hall armory built in 1892, the Armory in 1937 as a movie theatre, World War II weekly events at the Armory, Yolo County Civil War, Spanish-American War and World War I veterans, and more. There is no charge for entry.

Outside the Post 77 hall, Civil War re-enactors of Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp 22 will have Civil War displays, marching, and black powder firing of Civil War rifles. Military vehicles from World War II and the Vietnam War era will be stationed on Bush Street , along side a display of current Army vehicles presented by the California National Guard with a display of 100 years of California National Guard history. Civil War historian Kirby Morgan will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Civil War attire to tell about Yolo County residents who served in the Civil War buried in the Woodland Cemetery .

Post 77 will serving breakfast, open to the public, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sept. 12.
