Doll Houses, Room Boxes and Artist’s Studio
From 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the Carriage House of 618 First Street at the corner of Laurel. Enter on Laurel Street around the corner behind the historic main house. The main house and cottage will be closed to public entry. Limited seating is available on the patio.
Everybody loves a doll house. Come down First Street and turn West at Laurel. Look for the break in the hedge and proceed down the circular driveway past the charming caretaker’s cottage to the big white carriage house and into the world of the past to see children’s doll houses obviously played with by generations of children. Also see the wonderful room scenes created by dedicated miniaturists who have been collecting and assembling their tiny treasures for decades. These room boxes contain hundreds of the precise miniature furniture items and accessories necessary to portray the theme. Some are detailed room interiors from various periods in history and some are whimsical scenes from ancient or modern life.
Special feature of the exhibit is an exact miniature replica of 618 First Street. Compare it to the real house next door and see what you think.
The carriage house is currently used as a working artist’s studio. Walls of the studio are covered with drawings and paintings on subjects from portrait to landscape by local artist Sally Blevins.
