160 Years Of Fashion Show
If you only have time for one performance at this year’s Stroll, see this one, a Sandy Beers production called 160 Years of Fashion. You just won’t see this anywhere else. As you sit in the shade of the Woodland Opera House, watch history come alive and imagine what was worn to those earliest Opera House performances. This show is chock full of head-to-toe costumes including all the hats, shoes and accessories that were worn and sometimes the husbands, suitors, and children that accompanied. Some of the models are showing treasured antique clothes from deep in their family closets and some of the models are wearing fancy ball gowns, “promenade suits” and outrageous mid-century “fashion craze” clothes similar to those their mothers have long since probably thrown away. The commentator and the models are clearly having a very good time with these outfits and so will you. This is history education presented in the most pleasant possible way.
The show takes place in the shaded tent at the Heritage Plaza Main Stage at 1:00 p.m. Drinks are available at the Kiwanis hot dog lunch immediately adjacent.
The show features authentic antique, refurbished, and authentically researched reproduction period costumes to give you a clear idea of what was worn while Strolling through Woodland in:
- Mid-Century 49er Gold Rush
- The Victorian Era
- Turn of the Century Edwardian
- Roaring 20’s
- War Era Adaptations
- Mid-Century 50’s
- Swinging 60’s
- And all the way to current date
If for some reason you can’t catch the show, see the fashion exhibit in the storefront on Main Street.
