Grants
Each year when funds are available,The Stroll through History organization announces a grant opportunity and invites nonprofit and government organizations to submit applications for a Stroll through History sponsored grants to support their community based activities.
The mission of the Stroll through History is to enhance awareness and appreciation of Woodland’s unique history, culture and architecture for the benefit of the entire community. Each year the organization sponsors the City wide festival attracting thousands of participants the Main Street area to become more acquainted all aspects of the historical and cultural life of Woodland.
Proceeds from the festival are awarded in the form of grants for projects which the selection committee members feel will provide a permanent benefits to access, understanding, and/or imrovement of Woodland’s cultural assets. Over 30 prior grant awards have been made.
Any Yolo County nonprofit organization or Woodland government entity is eligible to submit a grant application. The grant criteria will be announced following the 2009 Stroll. The Application for 2009 Stroll Grant form should be prepared by the requesting organization and submitted before December 31, 2009. Award selection announcements are made and funded toward the beginning of each year. Historically, the size of the grants has varied from $500 to over $16,000 for a total of over $100,000 awarded since inception of the program in 1992. The largest awards have been made for improvements to the downtown Heritage Plaza adjacent to the historic Woodland Opera House and for upgrade of the historic Woodland Train Depot building to meet public health and safety requirements.
